Meeting Minutes, Tuesday, 12 October 2010

Committee Members Present: Donna Bushey, Keely Dunshee, Steve Dupree, Laura Hunter , Kathy LaBare, Helen Martin, Jackie McCarthy, Carol Van Riper, Jennifer Whittaker

 

Committee Absent: Chris Stromer

 

Meeting called to order by Jen Whittaker at 3:18p.m.

 

Minutes of 14 September 2010 were approved.

 

Shareholder Reports

            Davis

            -ELA testing was done in September and groups have started

            -Fire truck and ambulance were toured for Fire Safety Month

            -Field trips are ongoing

            -Open house scheduled for October 27th

            -1/2 staff development day will be grade level meetings

            -Picture day was 6 October

           

            Flanders

            -2010-2011 Goals include reconfiguration, RTI/IST, PTO info on website, math plan, and changes to PBIS for pre-K to 5

 

            St. Joseph’s

            -Parent dinner and book fair went well

            -Walk for Emma to benefit Rett’s syndrome netted $324.11

            -5th grades received anti drug programming

            -5th grades went to Conservation Field Days on 23 September

            -3rd grades toured Upper Canada Village

            -Malone Call Firemen came to present fire safety

            -1/2 staff development was given to Homeland Security rep doing internet safety

            -AIS providers have started meeting with students

            -Epsilon Spirit Week included Nerd/Redneck day and PJ day

            -Forensics team growing and gaining momentum

            -Picture Day went well

            -Tons of fire drills

            -New gym program (choose 5 week program) well liked by student body

            -Model UN to host Trick or Treat Street

            -PSATS on Saturday

 

            BOE

            -Davis Open House same night as vote for Davis land acquisition

            -Reconfiguration bathroom issue is being researched

            -Writing district cell phone policy

            -Commends Jen Whittaker for a job well done

 

            CSEA

            -2 October banquet had good turn out

            -Contract negotiations still on hold

 

            MAA

 

            MFT

            -Planning a pumpkin carving event for members and guests

            -NYSUT Leadership Conference in 2 weeks in Lake Placid

            -ESchool having issues with 5 week reports

            -RTTT scope of work due, MFT working with district as due dates approach

            -1/2 staff development had curriculum work and department meetings

            -Awaiting on reconfiguration finalization by BOE

 

            Parent

            -Davis having movie night on the 21st

            -Open House on the 27th PTA featured bake sale

            -Plans for a spring consignment sale

            -Flanders chocolate sale to benefit playground equipment and Smart boards

            -PTA paying for busses for 3rd grade field trip

            -Excellent PTA turn out

            -Toys for Tots spaghetti dinner planned

            -SADD and FA Teens Speak Out are merging

 

            Superintendent

            -Mr. Walbridge meeting with Mr. Whipple on Capital project

            -6 week audit going well

            -Common Core State Standards in Math, Dr. Tim McNamara speaker, 13 attend

            -Race to the Top: how much $ and how it needs to be spent

            -2 schools receive tech grants: tech proficiency assessments given to teachers and students

            -BEDS underway

            -VADIR reported

            -Chief Info Officer missed meeting; new reports for RTI take much time

 

Old Business

            -Goal 1-Perception Survey-visitor Jerry Griffin

            -easy administration, 69 questions < 40 minutes

            -perhaps not to seniors and at January

            -20-30% undecided; merely filled in middle bubbles

            -ideals versus norms-rust to judgment

            -returned 27 August as PDF, easy to forward, bad timing

            -looking at soon to form goals

            -absolutely in favor of this survey

            -Goal 2-Reconfiguration

            -at BOE

            -Goal 3-Comprehensive Strategic Instructional Plan

            -Grade level coordinators meet tomorrow

            -MMS in 3rd year of being a School in Need

            -Assessment workshop next week

            -Literacy purchased non fiction books that do not match learning standards

            -Hot Topic: Reading AIS after ELA block with no science or ss, raises concerns about giving a grade
