What Is P.B.I.S.?

Through P.B.I.S. (Positive Behavior Intervention and Supports), students at Malone Middle School are encouraged to be safe, caring, and responsible… and are being recognized for it!  Specific procedures for teaching and celebrating these expectations will occur throughout the year.  This will be achieved through the use of the following strategies:

Behavioral Training:

Expectations for positive behaviors are displayed throughout the building.  Several times a year, students also participate in various types of  P.B.I. S. training sessions where specific behaviors are reviewed and modeled for the students.

Quarterly Fun Days:

Every quarter, an activity celebrating positive behaviors will be held for students who make good decisions on a regular basis regarding their behaviors.  In the past, students have been treated to pep rallies, during-school dances, movies with popcorn, karaoke, ice cream socials, and relay races.

Gotcha! Slips:

Students also receive immediate reinforcement for positive behaviors.  Whenever a student is observed behaving in a safe, caring, and/or responsible way, he/she is given a “Gotcha!” Slip.  These slips can be used in a multitude of ways.  After students hand in the slips, they will be placed in the monthly drawing.

1 Gotcha! Slip = may leave 1 minute early from 9th period

10Gotcha! Slips = free slushie from the cafeteria

10Gotcha! Slips = free mini bag of popcorn

10 Gotcha! Slips = free homework pass (with teacher pre-approval)

Monthly Drawings:

Once a month, prizes will be given away in a random drawing of “Gotcha!” Slips.  This will take place on the first Monday of each month.  When a student’s “Gotcha!” Slip is drawn, he/she will be able to choose an item from the display case.  Some items may be raffled off while others will be saved for a surprise raffle during special occasions.

P.B.I.S. is designed to give the students more of an incentive to earn immediate rewards (such as “Gotcha!” Slips) by making good decisions.  After students hand in the slips, they will be placed in the monthly drawing.  If you have any questions about this program or would like more information, please contact Mrs. Tatro at 483-7801.
