* The Guidance staff will distribute registration forms and preparation materials for the PSAT. * Students should begin to document extracurricular, community service, and volunteer activities. * Use

OCTOBER
* Prepare and take the PSAT. (Test taken by students planning to apply to 4 year colleges). * Attend Higher Education Night at either St. Lawrence University or Plattsburgh State. * Attend Career Fair. * Job shadow a career field that interests you. See your counselor for more information. * Sign up for the ASVAB if you are interested in the military. * Visit with college admissions representatives visiting Franklin Academy.
NOVEMBER
* Students interested in the military should take the ASVAB * Meet with your counselor to plan your 12th grade coursework and discuss college choices. * Meet with college admission representatives visiting Franklin Academy.
DECEMBER
* You will receive your PSAT results. Use results to help you prepare for the SAT. * Continue to research colleges. * Find out which college entrance exams are required for acceptance into the colleges you wish to visit. Does the college require SAT II or ACT Writing?
JANUARY
* Continue to research prospective colleges by using web sites and college catalogs available in the Guidance Office. * Continue to prepare for college entrance exams. * Register to take the SAT in May or June.To register click here: www.collegeboard.com. When registering for the SAT exam our High School code is 332 980 and our Test Center Number is: 33-576. You will need these numbers to register! * Register to take the ACT in June.To register click here: www.act.org. When registering for the ACT our High School code is: 332-980 and our Test Center Number is: 181300. You will need these numbers to register! * Register to take the SAT II’s (Achievement Tests) in May or June if required for admittance to prospective college(s).
FEBRUARY
* Did you register for college entrance exams? If not, please do so this month. * Continue to prep for college entrance exams. * Remember to keep an accurate record of volunteer and extracurricular activities.
* Start exploring summer job opportunities. * Meet with counselor to narrow your list of college choices to 3-5 schools. * Make appointment(s) with college admissions office(s) to set up interview and tour campus over spring break. While visiting the admissions office, request copy of application and ask for an application fee waiver.
* Explore financial aid options. Check out fafsa4caster.ed.gov to receive financial aid estimates and establish savings strategies.
* Attend the SUNY Roadshow / Regional Career Fair.
APRIL
* Prepare interview questions for college visits. * After college visits, write down reflections of what you liked and disliked.
MAY
* Take the SAT. * Continue to explore college choices. * Complete summer job applications.
JUNE
* Take SAT (if you didn’t take it in May). * Take the ACT. * Make appointments to visit college(s) over the summer.
